My family thinks i am obsessed with my hair. I need to know what you think.?

im a 17 year old boy btw. i have hair that reaches past my eyes, and almost to my shoulders. Everytime i look at my reflection or in a mirror, i look at my hair to make sure it looks okay. i straighten my hair every other day and just comb my front bangs to a side of my forehead. i am always looking for ways to make it grow faster. i used to be afraid to shower because it made me lose hair. My family is always seeing me petting and twirling my hair, and they are always discouraging my hair, saying boys shouldn't have long hair and always saying i need a haircut. my mom finally gave up in trying to cut it from my disobedience. I feel that if i got forced to cut it very short, i would cry so hard and never talk to my family again. I guess i do take a lot of pride in my hair, but don't most girls do too? If that's true, then why is it so wrong for me to? Do i sound obsessed and too prideful?
